Final Major Project

Short Film Trailer Concept

A suspense-based trailer following Luke as an ordinary evening slowly becomes a night of fear, ending in a chilling disappearance.

Project Storyline

The trailer is structured in three escalating movements: beginning, middle, and end. Each section increases tension while keeping the setting grounded and believable.

Beginning

Luke arrives home from college and relaxes in his room. He gets a message from his dad saying both parents are out for dinner and will not be home. He starts gaming, then turns on the news, where he sees a terrifying report: a killer who escaped prison weeks ago has been spotted near his area.

Middle

He continues his day, unsettled by the possibility the man could be close. As time passes, he tries to forget and spends the evening normally, making popcorn and a drink before settling down for a movie. He grows tired, almost falling asleep, until something disturbing interrupts the calm.

End

Luke hears noises outside the door and feels immediate fear. He checks and sees nothing, but moments later catches a shadowy figure moving past the glass door. He rushes to lock doors and windows, then runs to his room and realizes one door was left unlocked. He races back and finds it wide open. The shot switches over-the-shoulder, the camera drops, a scream is heard, and the trailer fades to black: Luke is never seen again.

Research And Development

Inspiration Research

Research into horror stories such as the Dybbuk Box and short films like "Other Side of the Box" helped shape the supernatural tone, note concept, and suspense style in my trailer idea.

Sound And Horror Analysis

I studied how horror films use sound design, music, silence, and camera choices to build tension. This directly informed my own choices for pacing, mood, and audience reaction.

Script And Storyboard Progress

I developed multiple script drafts and refined my storyboard to improve structure and visual flow from beginning, middle, and end.
